Common Questions & Answers
Q: What happens during treatment?
A: The procedure will seem similar to your annual exam, and will likely be even quicker. Our expert providers will insert the laser and deliver laser energy “pulses”. The total procedure is less than 10 minutes.
Q: Does it hurt?
A: The laser energy itself is virtually painless, however, topical numbing cream will be applied. Some patients report mild discomfort with the laser tip insertion during the first procedure if there is gynecologic dryness.
Q: How soon can I expect results?
A: Many patients have reported that they experience relief in a couple of weeks. Most women have progressive improvement and symptom resolution after their second and third treatments.
Q: How long does treatment last?
A: MonaLisa Touch provides lasting results. A once-a-year single treatment is recommended to maintain symptom relief.
What do you find the most exciting aspect of this service?
This new procedure has been “life-changing” for patients. For severe symptoms, we have had the most wonderful feedback from cancer and post menopausal patients who want better gynecologic health and cannot take hormonal therapy. It is wonderful to see women come to our Center and regain their feminine health.
Our philosophy of care at The Center for Women’s Aesthetics is grounded in helping women do something important for themselves where we provide expertise, discretion and results.
Individual results may vary. Mona Lisa Touch may not be for everyone and some patients do not get full symptom resolution. MLT is NOT FDA cleared for the treatment of incontinence, however, many patients do report improvement with their urinary symptoms post treatment.
In addition to treatment of vaginal atrophy, Mona Lisa Touch is also commonly used off-label to treat lichen sclerosus (LS) of the vulva. This autoimmune skin disorder causes chronic itching and burning of the external skin and may cause patchy white color changes to the skin. It is also associated with an increased risk of vulvar cancer. While steroid and estrogen creams are frequently used to treat LS, they only provide temporary relief . Although LS is an incurable disorder, MLT is a proven treatment to provide long term improvement, and we see amazing results in the many women we have treated. Six treatments are required when treating lichen sclerosus, however results are usually seen after one or two treatments.
