Is Sculptra Better Than Fillers

At The Center for Women’s Aesthetics of Charlotte, North Carolina, our team of providers at our local med spa work hard to ensure patients have access to all the solutions available to them when it comes to improving their appearance and restoring a more youthful self. With cosmetic injectables, patients can now do this without the need for invasive and expensive plastic surgeries. In fact, for many patients, plastic surgeries such as brow lifts and facelifts are now a thing of the past! Thanks to cosmetic injectables available at our office, men and women can reverse the signs of aging at our medical spa. One popular treatment is that of Sculptra, but Sculptra is not the same as more traditional dermal fillers. Let’s evaluate Sculptra a little closer to get a better idea of how it differs from hyaluronic acid fillers and how it works differently to get the results you desire!

Understanding Sculptra

Sculptra is not a traditional dermal filler. Instead, it is an injectable that uses PLLA, or “poly-L-lactic acid,” to stimulate the production of collagen in the skin. Sculptra doesn’t provide same-day results in the same way dermal fillers do. It works to rebuild collagen which adds volume while improving skin texture. In time it will reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles across the face where it is injected. Thanks to the mild inflammatory response that signals the skin to produce new collagen, patients will enjoy natural-looking improvements, resulting in fuller, smoother, and more youthful skin.

How does Sculptra differ from traditional dermal fillers?

Most dermal fillers are formulated from an ingredient known as hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid works to add volume right where it is needed. HA is administered in a gel-like formula right into the wrinkles and folds, which are being treated to ensure same-day improvements. However, hyaluronic acid dermal fillers like Juvederm do not last as long as Sculptra injection results can, requiring more routine injections to keep the face looking youthful with time.

There are a few other ways in which these treatments differ, including:

Side effects: Sculptra has minimal side effects, whereas traditional dermal fillers can sometimes cause allergic reactions, migration, or lump formation.

Cost: Although Sculptra has a higher initial cost, it becomes more cost-effective over time compared to dermal fillers that require frequent reinjections.

Treatment areas: Sculptra is ideal for treating areas with significant volume loss, such as the cheeks and jawline, while traditional dermal fillers are better suited for lip augmentation, nasolabial folds, and fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and brows.

Longevity: The results from Sculptra last much longer than those from traditional dermal fillers, making it a more enduring option for many patients.

Natural results: Sculptra stimulates the skin’s natural collagen production, resulting in more natural-looking outcomes, especially compared to the potential overuse of traditional dermal fillers.
